Tasked to redesign UEA’s magazine Ziggurat, our creative brief focussed on developing a clear new look that allowed articles room to breathe.
Through a collaborative approach with the University’s alumni and communications offices, OneAgency brief was to bring UEA’s vision for a new Ziggurat to life.
The project’s main objective was to design a confident and bold publication that showcased the many facets of the University to a diverse range of stakeholders. It was also essential that Ziggurat’s new look gave articles room breathe, to develop into longer read features.
Set out to establish a layout that would allow the space and article room desired, OneAgency developed a clear new design and rebrand. By allowing features to include large photographs, bold graphics and more space, the stories were given room to grow and be explored fully.
Icons were also produced to link magazine content to further information and videos on the website, continuing the stories beyond reading the actual magazine.
Delivered within a modest budget, the new-look magazine embodied both the project’s visual and written objectives. Relevant across the university’s wide-ranging audiences, client feedback noted that the end product was “visually striking”, with images and space enhancing the stories being told.
In addition to being well-received by the client and target readership, it also went on to win the prestigious Gold Award for Best Publication in the CIPR Anglia, Thames & Chiltern PRide Awards 2015. CIPR judges noted:
“This publication has set new standards in university publications with its exemplar magazine design and style, with stunning visual appeal.”
