Thursday 19 June: solid defensive work, a hat-trick and elation in making the semi-finals…

Unfortunately we’re not recounting anything from the England v Uruguay match on the day in question; instead it was the performance of the One-derers, our very own agency team, competing in the ITV World Cup Football Challenge!

Yes, all in the name of charity and getting involved with a fine bunch of agency peers, we put forward two teams to compete in the five-a-side inter-agency competition.

The first team, the One-derers, won its first match 7-1 against tricky opposition. Our senior creative Paul Slack scored four goals, putting even Suarez to shame, and web designer David Cannell provided solid defensive work.

The team’s second game was won 8-0. Graphic designer Will Pointer grabbed a hat-trick and such a performance saw the team sail through to the semis.

Meanwhile our second team, the One-2-derers, put in a valiant effort in their first match with account director Jon Goves getting ‘Goal of the Tournament’ from the half way line, ably assisted by client services director Helen Littlewood who served Jon the ball from a re-start. Digital account manager David Keenan nailed a good striker’s goal and extensive defensive work was provided by production director Louise Farr and Helen who covered three kilometres per match! A fine performance, but not quite enough to see the team into the semi finals.

The One-derers didn’t make the finals, but everyone was duly rewarded/commiserated with post-match pizza and beers. It was a fun way to mingle with other agencies in the region and from London, raise money for Text Santa and show off our competitive nature! Thus proving we are an agency that works hard and plays hard.
